Re Geoff’s post below – the name Downs or Downes rings a bell but I can’t place it in Southcote at the moment.  There was a David Downs in the same year as me at Reading School – he lived in Tilehurst and still does.  He is the historian for the Reading FC.

If anyone has any idea if Ann married and what her married name is and where she might be living in Australia, then I might be able to search for her.

Hope you are keeping well.
Seeing the last post about Southcote jogged a memory.  Can anyone remember the Downes family in Southcote Circuit Lane area?  I used to go to Coley School with Ann Downs in about 1952/53 .  I seem to remember she came from a large family.  I lost contact when I went to senior school, and I believe she emigrated to Australia later on.  Also I spent a lot of time around Bucknell’s Farm as my Grandfather John /Jack Weller was a ploughman on the Bucknell’s Farm and lived at North Lodge in Coley Park.  North Lodge was near the Goods RAILWAY near the “Wooden Bridge”, in the North West corner of Coley Park.
